Laurence
Laurence whistled as he worked. He couldnât stop himself. Heâd whistled through making breakfast. Heâd sung loudly to Nineties power ballads on his morning commute to the shop. Now that he was here assembling arrangements he was dancing and whistling his way back and forth between the shop and the back room to select blooms and sprays for each arrangement on the orders list. All his mom did was chuckle at him whenever he sailed through the bead curtain.
Everything was so alive today. The colors of their flowers were vibrant, and their scents smelled divine. He could almost taste the perfumes in the air as he bustled around like a worker bee.
Are you really going to tell me you havenât realized your powers are stronger when youâre fucking someone?
Jackâs words rang in his ears, and he gasped.
Could that be why his momâs gift only came in hints and instinct? Because Dad was dead?
He shook his head to himself. No. Sheâd said when she tried to teach him that it came to her more subtly anyway. She didnât get visions, and she sure couldnât transform bamboo into a fully-grown tree or make vines move under her command.
His senses did feel sharper today, though. It could be his imagination, or maybe that he was high on life, but there sure was an improvement.
His head rose as the bell above the shop door rang.
âHey, Mrs. R! Is Laur in?â
Ethanâs voice, cheerful and bright.
âHe is, dear. Go on through.â
âThanks!â
By the time Ethan made it to the curtain, Laurence had washed his hands and was patting them dry with the hem of his apron.
âHey, Ethan!â
âLaur! Good to see you, dude!â He paused, then a sly smile crept across his tanned face. âOh, man, do you look like the cat who got the cream! You dirty dawg!â
âShit, man, is it that obvious?â
âOh hell yeah.â Ethan smirked and hopped up onto the table. âYou score at last, huh?â
âShut up!â Laurence laughed and filled the kettle.
âNo way, dude.â Ethan swung his feet and narrowly avoided knocking over a stool. âSo? Come on, you canât hold out on me. Details!â
âI totally can.â
âCâmooooon! At least tell me what it was like!â
Laurence sighed as he gathered mugs out of the cupboard and lined them up in front of the electric kettle. âHeâs so amazing,â he breathed. âGoddess, heâs⦠Iâm so proud of him, andââ He felt his face grow hot at the memory of Quentinâs teeth on his skin. âI dunno. Heâs kinda toppy.â
Ethan feigned a shocked gasp. âYou didnât!â
âDonât even go there.â He dropped teabags into the mugs as he poked his tongue out.
âLaurence âI bottom for no oneâ Riley!â Ethan crowed.
âNo, asshole!â He huffed at the other man. âI didnât mean like that. We didnât fuck.â
âThen what do you...ohhh!â Ethanâs feet stopped swinging and he leaned forward. âHeâs a kinky one, huh?â
âI dunno.â He shook his head. âMan, I really donât know. He seems to like taking charge, but he could just be bossy.â
âWell, heâs like royalty or something, right?â Ethan affected a British accent which sounded jarring to Laurenceâs ear.
